A new polyethylene for blown film applications from LyondellBasell, Lupolen GX 4081, has a combination of stiffness and toughness that the company says offers significant down-gauging potential--"up to double digits"--for flexible packaging.
Lupolen GX 4081 is produced using LyondellBasell's Spherilene gas phase process and has a melt flow rate of 1.4 g/10min and a density of 0.935 g/[cm.sup.3]. Films made from it have achieved a dart drop impact of 330 grams, measured on 50 micron film. The mechanical properties are achieved in machine and cross direction.
